How do we get into Cádiz by road, and how close can the car get in the old town?
Cádiz sits on a peninsula almost surrounded by sea, and the ways in by road are the San Fernando isthmus, the Carranza bridge and the Puente de la Constitución de 1812, opened on 24 September 2015 and 3,092 metres long, of which 1,440 cross the water of the bay. The old town itself is a tangle of narrow streets that nearly all end at the sea, and not every one is wide enough for a car. If your hotel is on one of those streets, we meet at the closest corner the car can reach and you continue on foot, worth knowing with suitcases or a pushchair. Send us the hotel name on WhatsApp when you book and we fix the spot, also for the ride back to the airport.
We are flying in for the Cádiz Carnival: does it change pick-up or journey time?
Cádiz Carnival falls in February or early March, depending on the year, with around ten days of street festivities, and the competitions at the Gran Teatro Falla start weeks earlier. In those days the old town fills with crowds, some streets may be closed, and the last stretch to your accommodation can be slower. Message us the date and the address on WhatsApp and we will tell you where we can collect or drop you; if you fly that day, leave more time than usual.
Jerez airport is much closer to Cádiz. Why land in Málaga and book this transfer?
Jerez airport is some 40-45 kilometres from Cádiz and Málaga more than 200, so if a convenient flight lands at Jerez, that is the shorter journey, though it is not one we run: our transfers go only to and from Málaga Airport. Landing in Málaga makes sense when its flight times or fares suit you better, or when you are also visiting the Costa del Sol. For a family the fare is per vehicle, not per person, child seats are free on request, and you can book just one direction.
We are staying in San Fernando or El Puerto de Santa María, next to Cádiz. Does this fare apply?
No. They are right next door, but they are separate towns: San Fernando sits at the far end of the isthmus and El Puerto de Santa María across the bay. This fare is for the city of Cádiz, from the old town and La Viña to Playa de la Victoria, a beach of about 3 km. For San Fernando, El Puerto, Chiclana or elsewhere in the province, message us the address on WhatsApp: if we can do that trip, we give you the price before you book.
